7-30-11 Sully's Pub & Grille

We shook the Urbanspoon app on our new phones and headed south to our old stomping ground when we checked out Sully's Pub & Grille. Sully's is the location of the former Creekside Bar in a sad strip mall at 99th and Holmes.

As is the norm, no one was there at 11:30 on a Saturday except a day drinker and a bartender. It makes the experience that much more when it's not crowded.

We read reviews about this place and looked at the menu before we headed there and we were not disappointed.

As is the trend, they have some specialty burgers like you can get at BRGR, Swagger or Blanc.

JE ordered the Black and Blue and added mushrooms with waffle fries. This is a blackened burger with blue cheese and the normal hamburger compliments. Guess what he took off? The burger was hand formed, well seasoned and grilled to a perfect medium well. We're not sure if the cook was used to adding mushrooms onto a burger because he came out later, asking how it was and if he put the mushrooms on correctly. JE said he did a good job.

I ordered the Idaho burger. This is a grilled burger topped with homemade mashed potatoes, onion rings, cheddar and A1 Steak sauce. I had waffle fries as well. I was secretly hoping it would come on a pretzel roll, but since I forgot to ask for that, it came out on a kaiser roll. The burger was good, as were the mashed potatoes, but either it could have used more A1 or maybe even put gravy or something on the potatoes because they were a bit dry and dried out the rest of the burger. I was happy with my choice though.

It's not the pretties place but it is clean and spacious. We suspect the after dinner crowd would be something we would be happy to avoid. The jukebox did have a sign that said no rap or heavy metal before 9 pm and that management had the right to skip songs without refund.

One other thing that caught our eye, outside of the food, was a game they had there. It was a big bulls eye with a ring on a string and you had to swing the ring to get it to hook--on a hook. I don't know if you need lots of beer to even attempt to hook the ring, but after several failures, we gave up.

Check out Sully's Pub for lunch or dinner and check out their vast menu and burgers.
