10-15-11 Dos de Oros Taqueria

It's pretty horrifying to drive down to 130 something and Holmes and be the only English speaking people in a restaurant. The parking lot was filled with trucks full of lawn mowers and landscaping equipment. The other diners had roofing and guttering t-shirts on - they cleaned up in the restroom. Welcome to Dos de Oros Taqueria.

JE was stressed out that we may have to eat in the car. There are only about 7 booths available in the restaurant. Thankfully turn-over here is pretty quick. He thought about screaming "IMMIGRATION!" just to get a table, but he didn't have to.

JE ordered a burrito grande barbacoa with no lettuce, a chicken soft taco and an asada sope (no lettuce) with a horchata which came to be $14.81.

The burrito was huge and smothered in some kind of white cheese sauce. The taco was a street type - two tortillas with meat, cilantro and onions just as it should be. The sope? He had never had one before but he was happy that he did. It's like a mini hurache. Yum!

I ordered a chicken burrito, asada soft taco and chicken sope.

The burrito was delicious and the white cheese sauce was divine. The street taco was just like other street tacos I've had in the past and it was good as well. And the sope? It was like a hurache or a tostada and it was also good but it had too much lettuce.

This place is an off-shoot of the main restaurant (called Dos de Oros) just around the corner which we will have to try sometime.

The guy next to me had a hangover from too many cervesas and Patron so he was eating menudo (blech!). Some other guy had a really annoying ringtone that sounded like an odd cartoon. And there were plenty of other people to watch or listen to if you know a little Spanish.

Overall delicious food, but it could benefit from making their own tortillas and expand the dining room a bit.

Dos do Oros Taqueria is located in South Kansas City at 650 E Blue Ridge Blvd.

  1. Dos De Oros is one of my very favs and near our house. They have some amazing Shrimp enchilada's on the menu as specials that are worth a try. Nice, friendly staff that remember you after a few visits.
