12-31-11 The Well

After a morning of shopping, we stopped at The Well for lunch on New Year's Eve. This huge space wasn't ultra crowded thankfully, but the party was going to get started in a minute.

We checked in on Foursquare and got a free spinach-artichoke dip (a $8 value). Yum! This check-in, at the time we received it, was good to receive once a day so in theory, you could go back every day and get it. It was a good way to start off your visit at The Well!

JE ordered the "56 Country Club" french dip with fries.

It was a huge sandwich with a wonderful au jus and quite a handful of fries. The fries are awesome and so is the bread on the sandwich. JE was happy with his lunch.

I ordered a fried chicken tender wrap (which was new on the menu) with a cup of cheeseburger soup.

I don't know what my expectations were for the cheeseburger soup. I guess I was expecting it to taste like a cheeseburger. It did have cheese and hamburger in it (along with carrots, celery and onion), but any other representation of a cheeseburger were missing. I really didn't like the taste of the cheese either so the soup for me, was a miss. JE thought my expectations were amiss. They probably were.

I was hoping the wrap would have been as big and JE's sandwich, but alas, it wasn't so I was a little disappointed there too. I get a fried chicken tender sandwich from my work cafeteria, which I like, but this was clearly different. Where I was expecting a crunch from the fried chicken part, the sandwich was lacking. It wasn't spiced very well either and somewhat bland.  It wasn't what I was used to and therefore, I think that's why I didn't really care for it. I should have ordered something else, but I ate what I ordered, although begrudgingly. I enjoyed eating JE's fries that he couldn't finish and dipping them in his au jus.

The wait staff is very laid back, maybe too laid back for the table next to us. They complained about how long it took to get their food. Maybe we were just prettier because our food was promptly delivered.

On our next visit, we'll get the spin dip again and I'll order something other than a wrap to get that disappointment out of my mind.

Check out The Well for yourself in Waldo. They're located at 7421 Broadway, Kansas City, MO 64114.
