3-03-12 Green Room Burgers & Beer

The recently opened Green Room in Westport was our destination on an early Saturday morning food adventure after stopping at Urban Mining for the month.

As is usual, we arrived just after 11 am and we were the only people there. The owner (or manager), a cook and a waitress were the only other people in the place. The location is called the Green Room as it was the green room for the Westport Theater.

We took a seat and were presented with a green bottle of water which the waitress poured into two glasses on the table. We have seen this become more and more prevalent at some places around Westport -- tap water (presumably) in a nice looking bottle used to fill (or refill) your glass with water. It makes it sound somewhat pretentious, but this place definitely isn't pretentious.

The menu isn't very big but they do have some appetizers (hummus, a few salads, and fries), burgers/sandwiches (about 7 different kinds), some unique beers on tap and in bottles (home brews and others), and milkshakes. They also use local ingredients.

JE ordered a Dubliner with a small order of diner fries. The Dubliner has Dubliner Irish cheddar cheese between two beef patties, with pickles and mustard. The diner fries are handcut and served with homemade ketchup.

JE loved his burger. He also asked for mayo for his fries, but they didn't have that so they offered an aoili which was really good to dip your fries into. He thought the ingredients were really fresh and the fries were divine.

I ordered the Breakfast Burger without jalapenos, a small order of diner fries and a Snickers milkshake. The people I work with will probably roll their eyes that I once again got some kind of breakfast burger as I order it regularly when we go to Johnny's, but that's what I wanted. Green Room's Breakfast Burger was two beef patties, thick-cut bacon, hash browns, cheddar cheese and topped off with a fried egg (usually with jalapenos).

My burger was equally delicious. We both thought the burgers were seasoned well. The double patties with all the toppings and the fresh cut fries were extremely filling. My milkshake was good too, however, I thought it was a bit too runny and not thick enough. There were big chunks of Snickers in it which made using a spoon essential to eat it. I'm not a milkshake expert, but I thought it could have been a little better.

The staff that was there was very friendly. After we paid, JE left a lucky shamrock coin he picked up from Urban Mining earlier that day. Hopefully luck will shine on the Green Room and it will be around for many to enjoy for ages.

Check out The Green Room is located in Westport at 4010 Pennsylvania Ave, Suite D around the corner and down the hill from the Westport Coffee House.
