On Saturday, this place opens at 11 am and there were people waiting to get in. We were greeted by an enthusiastic hostess who showed us to our seats.
JE ordered the Posnanski's chicken spidini, named after Joe Posnanski, a local sports writer for the KC Star and Sports Illustrated. It was recommended by our spunky waitress too.
It was glorious garlic and bread crumb coated chicken over a bed of pasta with house made marinara and two pieces of garlic toast. He loved every bite and didn't leave a thing for the angels.
I was craving a steak and that's what I ordered. It was an 8-ounce top sirloin with green beans, garlic mashed potatoes and garlic bread. It was divine and only $13.99.
We overheard others in the dining room saying, "I was here last night and had to come back for lunch." You can tell the owners and managers appreciate your business. Governor Stumpy's is on FrontFlip as well and JE and I both won free hi-fives which is exactly what the waitress gave us after we told her.
I like desserts (or deserts if I'm feeling dry) and if a menu has something "homemade" on it, I'm usually going to try it, especially if pistachio is also in the same sentence. Welcome to a piece of heaven which was hell on my waist. I introduce to you the Pistachio Pudding Cake!
When I ordered this, I thought it would be a small piece of cake, but this was two layers of deliciousness. I actually started calling this the MacArthur Park (you know, the Donna Summer song about a cake with sweet green icing that someone left out in the rain that was melting) as my ode to Ms. Summer's passing. This cake was so good that I couldn't eat it all and had to take the rest of it with me.
Later on that day, one of our bowling team members said a friend gets a whole cake of pistachio pudding for his birthday. Lord have mercy I'd be in a diabetic coma because it's that good!
The prices at GS are very reasonable. You would spend this much on fast food so you might as well spend it at a locally owned place where they are happy that you are there.
We'll definitely be going back and we're happy we rediscovered Governor Stumpy's.
