When we pulled into the parking lot at Twin City Tavern, it was nearly full. We found out after walking into the vacant place that the cars belonged to the people visiting the Google Fiber place across the street.
JE told me during the week that he had found a place that has a steak special on Saturdays so I was game.
We were warmly greeted by the bartender/waitress. She said, "What do y'all want to drink today?" We both lowered our heads and said, "water," but she didn't care. She was watching some sort of ghost story show on the Biography channel on one TV and the Olympics on another.
JE ordered the Bacon Philly cheeseburger with chili on top and a side of potato salad. This burger has Philly Cream Cheese and bacon on it.
The potato salad was probably Reiser's but he didn't care. The burger was stuffed with cream cheese and all was right with the world. It was perfectly cooked and gooey with cream cheese, decadent crispy bacon and kick ass chili.
Remember how JE told me they had a steak special on Saturdays? Well they do, but you can't get it until after 5 pm which isn't detailed anywhere in the bar. The special says you can get it with a baked potato (baked potato available after 5pm), but it didn't say the special wasn't all day. That was a little disappointing, but I still ordered the KC Strip steak, just at full price.
The entree came with a side salad, piece of garlic bread, fries and the steak. The salad was basically iceberg lettuce and shredded cheddar cheese swimming in a pool of ranch dressing and served in a Styrofoam bowl. It came with three packages of Club crackers too. I guess the Club crackers could have been crumbled up and used as croutons, but I didn't get that enthusiastic with the salad.
The garlic bread was good and the fries were decent. The steak was cooked medium well as requested and it was delicious. I can't fault a well prepared and cooked steak. But I will fault that they need to specify their specials are only after 5 pm. Have I said that enough yet?
As for decor, the bar was decorated with old signs, memorabilia, and a coveted Budweiser Clydesdale horse lamp where they pull a carriage in circles.
When JE checked in on Facebook, one of his friends said, "I hope you got the tits and shrimp." Maybe the iPhone auto corrected, but we had neither.
Check out Twin City Tavern at the corner of State Line and Westport Road before or after checking out Google Fiber across the street.

I used to like going there and their Friday night shrimp nights were great. However when the smoking bans in bars and restaurants came up for vote, the owner of Twin Cities was so obnoxious in fighting for the right to smoke in the bar and restaurant that I decided to stay away. Customer and employee health is far more important than the owner's desire to have a smoky bar.
